Galedin Veterinary is a long-established practice (the website states over 200 years of veterinary care) that treats multiple species, including household pets, horses, and livestock. It’s set up for routine pet healthcare (vaccinations and check-ups are repeatedly mentioned) as well as end-of-life care; one recent review describes a vet explaining sedation and the euthanasia process in detail and discussing options without pressure. Reviews also point to some practical on-site setup (a separate waiting area for cats is mentioned, though one owner said it wasn’t clearly signposted by reception).

I am writing this to warn other pet owners. My 10-year-old Staffy, Cox, broke a tooth. We went to Galedin Vets, as he has been registered there since he was a puppy. We were quoted a minimum of £600 for a single tooth extraction, plus £70 for the initial consultation. When we asked about a payment plan, we were shocked by the refusal. The office claimed we use other vets because Cox had only been seen a few times in 10 years. The truth is simple: Cox is a healthy, strong dog who didn't need a vet until this accident! It felt like we were being punished for having a healthy pet that doesn't generate constant profit for them. We moved to Borders Vets, and the difference was night and day. Not only was the service professional, but the entire procedure—which ended up involving 6 extractions (including the broken one)—cost only £360, including post-op meds and a check-up. Galedin wanted £600+ for just one. It’s clear where the priority lies, and it isn't the animals' welfare.

I have been a client of this practice for around 10 years, and the staff have always been friendly and professional. The veterinary care itself has also been very good. However, my most recent experience was disappointing. I attended a scheduled appointment and had already travelled approximately 10 miles to the practice. I had allowed a 40-minute window before another commitment, based on being told the practice was not busy. After waiting over 20 minutes beyond my appointment time with no indication of how much longer the delay would be, I had to leave as I could not risk being late. I informed reception that I would return within 10 minutes. Shortly after leaving, I was contacted and told that the next available appointment was not until approximately three hours later. I fully understand that some cases may be urgent and require immediate attention, and I would never expect a seriously ill animal to be turned away. However, given that I had arrived on time and had already waited beyond my appointment time, it was disappointing that it was not possible to accommodate my brief return shortly afterwards. The alternative would also have required a total of approximately 40 miles of travel that day, which was not practical. I raised a formal complaint and received a response from the practice, but I also contacted VetPartners and received no acknowledgement or reply. This was disappointing, particularly as a long-standing client. I hope this feedback is helpful in improving communication and appointment handling for clients in future.

Just home after taking our cat Micha to get put to sleep 😢😢 Alan? (sorry I was a blubbering mess) The vet was absolutely brilliant with her and talked us through various options with no pressure regarding her remains. He also explained what the procedure was and how he would sedate and make her comfortable before putting her to sleep. Everything he and the nurses did was exceptionally caring when they were with her. Top class human beings thank you very much. We've had many pets and sadly had to say goodbye to them over the years. But none of them were treated with the care dignity and compassion show to Micha and us today. 💔💔 Still a blubbering mess. 😢😭😭

Both dogs had their vaccines including Nasal kennel cough. Young female vet was, as usual, wonderful with them. Given how nervous my rescue dog is she was calm and took her examination and injection etc with no problem. A great vet.

I love how friendly all the staff are towards the pets (and their human slaves)
